Hailing from a small northwest Iowa farm, sisters Kim Hinkhouse and Sheila Waller founded Design2Build with the vision of integrating function, efficiency and fun into designing, remodeling and building homes. By reinventing the design-to-build process, the two focus on planning upfront to fill the gap between great design and bringing it to life without big surprises. Now, alongside their talented team, they are known for offering high-quality, functional and seamless design-to-build services every step of the way.
Kim Hinkhouse
Co-Owner, Business Director
With more than 20 years of business strategy and project management experience, Kim loves a seamless processes. As D2B cofounder, Kim keeps an eye on continual improvement for her team as well as clients. Growing up on the family farm fostered not only an appreciation for hard work, but also a life-long love of being outdoors and staying active. One hobby she hasn’t mastered yet is learning to play the piano — if only she could stay in one place long enough for the lessons.
Sheila Waller
Co-Owner, Design Director
After discovering a love for design in 4th grade, Sheila has spent her entire career learning and perfecting the design-to-build process, from start to finish. Her gift for visualizing the functional and aesthetic potential of any space leads to unforgettable transformations that our clients enjoy. Lucky for Sheila’s Bernedoodle pup, Theo, his favorite human loves to unwind and relax by taking him for the walks she knows he also happens to favor.
Sharissa Johnson
Designer
Details — they don’t sneak by Sharissa. With expertise in building processes, Sharissa skillfully anticipates important aspects through every step of our projects, helping to execute on overall design plans and vision without overlooking critical details. Vacation often takes her traveling and discovering new cultures while learning about the architecture unique to different areas of the world.
Lindsay Brandon
Designer
Lindsay’s background in furniture and textiles helps bring together our clients’ remodeled or new areas with the perfect finishes and materials that match their style. While many parents get frazzled around back-to-school time, Lindsay looks forward to it every year as a time to re-energize and focus on change and growth.
Katie May
Project Manager
Remodeling and building new spaces requires a talent in multi-tasking, and Katie takes it all in stride. Her attention to detail and schedule management helps our team stay on top of various moving projects, schedules, material orders and contractors, so our clients can relax and enjoy the process. Katie unwinds by enjoying musicals, plays, live music and reading.
Grace Martinez
Office Manager
Every office needs a Grace! With a positive attitude and a “can-do” spirit, Grace is always ready to assist the team in whatever way is needed to keep our office and services efficient, organized and proactive. Grace’s prevalent curiosity fuels her passion for traveling to remote locations where she also scuba dives for deep sea discoveries.
Sarah Nielsen, CKBD
Contracted, Certified Kitchen Designer
Sarah is our secret weapon for specialty cabinet layouts. Her passion for woodworking and extensive knowledge of construction makes her especially valuable for incredible, customized cabinet designs. Sarah also harbors a hidden talent for cooking and baking, creating culinary delights with the same passion and precision she brings to her designs.
